In the early days, hashtags were only used by the tech savvy early adopters to group conversations around specific topics. As understanding of how hasthags actually work grew, they became widely embraced by the comms industry. Nowadays, the #hashtag is part of our daily lives with people using it in their conversations.
Just the other day I overheard my fellow commuter talking to her friend on a phone using hashtags to describe her night out – it was hashtag #legendary… followed by giggles.
